Doris A. Milkie, 99, of Union, went to heaven on Thursday, January 7th. She was surrounded by everyone who loved her. Doris was born and raised in Rumford, Maine, lived in Elizabeth, prior to moving to Union in 1956. She worked for Al Can in Union, where she helped manufacture the 1st atomic bomb. Doris was the true matriarch of the family and was a present day saint. Anyone that knew her loved her. She was the smartest woman we’ve ever known; a true dictionary for any fact you ever needed. Doris was a born nurturer with a sassy and witty attitude that kept us all on our toes, but most of all she was the best and most loving Nana to her favorite girls. Doris was pre-deceased by her husband, Clarence Milkie in 2007 and her daughter, Carolee Latsch in 2020; she is survived by her granddaughter, Bonnie Merhige and her husband Emil; three great grandchildren, Carleigh Sanchez and her husband Richard, Maree Merhige and Emil Merhige Jr.; three great great grandchildren, Kali, Mila and Zoey; her son in-law, Robert Latsch and her dear friend, Tony Bartucci. Our family and our lives will never be the same without her. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16th from 2-4pm. Cremation is Private.
