Merlin Anthony Velker Obituary

June 5, 1930 - January 5, 2021 It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Merlin’s passing on January 5, 2021 in Invermere, B.C. Merlin was born in Trochu, AB. He lived most of his childhood and adult life in Rockyford, AB working with his father at grain elevators. He then worked for Imperial Oil, before retiring to Fairmont Hot Springs, B.C. Later in life, Merlin cultivated his love of roses in his home garden. Merlin was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Fairmont & District Lions Club. Merlin is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Sonia, his sisters Gene McCarthy, Millie (Al) Krenzel, Darlene (Bryce) Humphreys, and Lucille Winger, and his sisters-in-law Maida (Francisco) Garcia and Elizabeth Sune. He was predeceased by his parents, Matilda, and Anthony Velker, his brothers-in-law, Pat McCarthy, Ken Winger, and Tito Sune, and niece, Amy Kress. He will be profoundly missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their children, as well as many dear friends. Merlin’s family is grateful to Dr. Walsh, the caring staff at Invermere Hospital and Ivy House, as well as the dedicated staff at Columbia Garden Village. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Pending COVID restrictions, a Celebration of Life is planned for June 5, 2021 (which would have been Merlin’s 91st birthday). Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services. Condolences for the family can be offered at: www.mcphersonfh.com
