On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, Philip Truman Eckstrom, loving husband and father of four children, passed away at age 81 in Geneva, IL. Phil was born on July 5, 1939 in Wallace, MI to Truman and Florence (Anderson) Eckstrom. He graduated from Stevenson High School in 1957. On December 17, 1960, he married Nancy Lee Hittle in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1961 and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan in 1965. He served his country in the Public Health Service from 1966 until 1968. Phil then practiced medicine for about 35 years in Michigan and Wisconsin, beginning at the Boren Clinic in Marinette. Phil and Nancy raised one son, Philip, and three daughters, Elizabeth, Julie, and Jennifer. Phil had a passion for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, actively supporting many missionaries in America and around the world. He also loved making music, especially at Christmas time when he always organized what became known as "Grandpa's Band" to play Christmas carols. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He enjoyed playing cards, taking trips with his family and special friends Don and Lori, and walking in the woods. He and Nancy modeled a faithful and loving marriage for over 60 years. Phil was preceded in death by his father, Truman, his mother, Florence, his sister, Carol, sister-in-law, Ginger, and brother-in-law, Paul. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his four children, Elizabeth (Rich), Philip (Greta), Julie (Rich), and Jennifer (John), his brothers Dave (Carol) and Dan (Marg), his sister Ruth, brother-in-law Chuck, eleven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
