Gorz, Eleanor; age 91; previously of Oak Lawn, IL, peacefully passed away on January 3, 2021. Her death was preceded by her husband Joseph Gorz in 1978. She was the loving sister to the late Paul Grgantov, and the late Helen Vukovich. She was blessed with 2 children: Leonard (Kathryn) Gorz; and Linda (Andy) Oberc. Eleanor was grandmother to five grandchildren: Dr. Joseph Gorz (Dr. Sarah Shook); Elizabeth Gorz, J.D.; Andrew (Olivia) Oberc, Dr. Amanda Oberc (fiancé Dr. Scott Hetzel) and Rebecca Gorz. She had two great grandchildren: Genevieve Oberc and Sloane Mikel Gorz. She was also aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Eleanor was born on November 5, 1929 to Agnes and John Grgantov. She was proud of her Croatian and Slovakian heritage and spoke both languages. She was raised in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Eleanor attended McClellan High School and Jones Commercial’s two-year skilled office work program. Eleanor possessed a strong work ethic evidenced by her long career as a saleswoman in the clothing, bridal and optical industries. She was truly a trailblazer for her time. Eleanor loved to dance and her first date with her husband was at Polonia Grove a popular dance hall of that era. She married her husband, Joseph Gorz, in 1948. After Joseph’s passing, she had the great fortune to share her life with Mat Mostowick, until his passing in 1996. Eleanor was stoic and resilient. She was a timeless beauty and genuinely interested in all those who she encountered. Eleanor’s wisdom made her a confidant and sounding board to many. She treasured her unique connections with each of her grandchildren. Her hobbies included sowing, crocheting, and enjoying her flower gardens. Later in life, she developed a love of reading. She was an exceptional cook from main courses to desserts. Her receipt books will be cherished by her family.
