Alan Dhru Meeker, beloved husband of Valerie (Goodwin) Meeker, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2020 at Sayre Hospital in Pennsylvania. He went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus. Survivors include eight devoted children: Ron Waterman, Jr., Tim Dudley, Peter Waterman, Jen Wilderness, Randy Waterman, Margaret (Don) Anderson, Melanie (Steven) Dewey and Christine Meeker, as well as two devoted sisters: Mary (Penny) Meeker and Martha (Rob) Hubbard. He is survived by 15 grandchildren: Sam Waterman, Alex (Matt) Teal, Ryon Waterman, Heather (Dennis) Baker, Kate Waterman, Christian Waterman, Grace Waterman, Nathan Burroughs, Gabbi (Patrick) Garber, Nicholas Waterman, Connor O'Hara, Quinn Lambert, Bella Anderson, Ryann (Christina) Hubbard, as well as five great grandchildren: Rylee Ray Hubbard, Skylar Garber, Snow Garber, Joey Baker and Mackenzie Baker. Alan loved ham radio and was a member of the Cortland Skyline Amateur Radio Club for years. He would go out on the Pumpkin Patrol on Halloween and make sure everyone was safe. He was also a member of the American Legion and was held in high regard by them. He volunteered yearly at the Cayuga Lake Triathlon. When he was stationed in Bristol, RI, he was a member of the Barrington, RI Auxiliary Police Department. Charitable organizations that Alan supported and were close to his heart included Tunnels to Towers, St. Jude's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital and Food Bank of United Methodist Church. He cherished his 20-year career in the United States Coast Guard. He so enjoyed talking on the phone with James, whom he was matched with through the Senior Volunteer Program. He also enjoyed corresponding regularly with his former "Coasties", as well as printing scads of pictures from the computer for his wife. Say you love each other five times a day; we did. Treasure the time you have together, every minute! You never know when a tragedy can strike, and your lives will be changed forever. Rest in peace, hubby, until we meet again. Miss you so much! Alan treasured his wife, his family, his pets and his service to country. He was always extremely proud to share the memories of his life with family and friends, from growing up in Groton to being in the Coast Guard and everything beyond. He will be sorely missed by many. There will be no funeral service or visiting hours. Alan's ashes will be spread on Cape Cod in Chatham, MA, where he was first stationed in the Coast Guard.
