Roberta Lupkes Obituary

A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, January 6th from 5 until 7 p.m. at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Roberta “Bobby Jo” Joann (Sturges) Lupkes was born January 10, 1947 to Orville and Dorothy (Thraen) Sturges, in Slayton, Minnesota. She was the oldest of three children, Bobby Jo, Diane, and Brad. The family lived on a farm outside of Lake Wilson.

Bobby grew up milking cows, bailing hay, and feeding hogs until her graduation from Lake Wilson High School. Upon graduation Bobby was married to Robert John Lupkes and had 4 children Michelle, Jay, Scott, and Ryan. After their divorce, some years later, Bobby moved to Chandler Minnesota, and went to school to get her accounting/secretary degree from Minnesota West in Pipestone, Minnesota. From there she worked at the courthouse in Slayton at the register’s office for many years. Bobby then moved around a bit until she settled in Estherville, Iowa and started working in the food service department at Forest Ridge Youth Services. Later on she was the manager of the Elks Club in Estherville. Many people would come to the Sunday brunch just to eat Bobby’s cooking.

Bobby is survived by her mother Dorothy, her brother and sister, her 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 step great grandchild. Bobby passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the age of 73 from complications of Covid.

God Speed Bobby.
