REV. EVERETT M. JACKSON Obituary

Reverend Everett Maxwell Jackson was born in Waynesburg, Ohio on November 26, 1937, to the late James S. and Maggie Lena Lowery Jackson, as the ninth child.

He transitioned to join his family in Heaven on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from Mercy Medical Center.

He confessed Christ at an early age at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Waynesburg and was baptized.

Everett spent his childhood and youth in Waynesburg, attending Sandy Valley Schools, playing football and basketball, graduating in 1959.  Everett worked at Whitaker-Greer Fireproofing Co. (brickyard), then on to the Hoover Co. in North Canton.  He rose from Piece Worker, to Laborer, to Group Leader in management, retiring in 1997 with 32 years of service.

Answering his call to the ministry after joining Bethel C.M.E. Church, Everett diligently pursued his education.  He graduated from Malone College with a Bachelor of Arts in Management, received an Associated Degree from Lincoln Extension in Industrial Management; Trinity Evangelical Divinity School– through Moody Institute, continuing education units from Virginia Union University (IAMWMW,  Inc.) and Phillips School of Theology (Pastor’s Conference).

During his 40 years on the road as a Pastor, He pastored in West Virginia, Steubenville, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Cleveland, Painesville, and Akron ending his traveling pastorate at Bethel C.M.E. Canton, where he retired.

He married Jonnie M. Smith Jackson in Cincinnati in 1977, and together they    happily raised his two children.  While pastoring and serving in the Canton community as well as the communities where they pastored, Everett was visible in many organizations.  Everett quietly serves as a member of HIRAM ABIFF PRINCE HALL GRAND LODGE #No. 72, Free and Accepted Masons of Canton; worked with Canton’s Amnesty Program, Canton Court System; Interdenominational Minister’s Association (IMA) Canton and Vicinity; Akron Area Association of Churches; Organized Golden Hearts Senior Club, Akron; Husband’s Committee Ohio Association Minister’s Wives and Minister’s Widow Inc. (IAMWMW),  Cleveland-Pittsburgh’s District  Ministers Committee; Joint Board of Finance Ohio-Central Indiana Region; five time Alternate Delegate to C.M.E. General Conference.  Reverend Jackson has received countless certificates, awards, and recognitions for faithful service.  He was truly a mentor and a motivator, quietly encouraging young upcoming preachers.

In addition to his parents, Reverend Jackson is preceded in death by his brothers, James T. (Emma), Norman (Alice), Lynwood (Louise), and Russell; (3) sisters, Elma (George) Massey, Evelyn (Tommie) Rush, and Cleota (Eugene) Briggins.

He will lovingly be remembered by his devoted wife of 43 years, Jonnie; daughters, Helena (Eric) Barnes of Toledo, Ohio and Wanna Smith of Phoenix, Arizona; sons, Timothy (Maureen) Jackson of Norfolk, Virginia, Terrell Smith of Canton, Ohio; loving grandchildren, Elyse Solomon of Phoenix, Arizona, Langley Smith of Georgetown, Texas, and Thomas Everett Jackson of Phoenix, Arizona and  sister-in-law, Annie Jackson; as well as a host of loving, admiring nieces, nephews, and many fond friends from the seven churches he pastored, to the lives he touched in his blessed ministry.  To God Be The Glory, Great Things He Hath Done.
