Andy L. Devart

Andy L. “Lindy” Devart, 93, of Rosemont, WV, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2020 at home with his family by his side. He was born at Rosemont on June 16, 1927, a son of the late Andy W. and Nita (Jones) Devart. Mr. Devart was preceded in death by his wife of over 49 years, Patricia Ann “Patty” Devart on June 30, 2002. In addition to his parents and wife Andy was preceded in death by four siblings: Wilma Riffle, Mildred Yocco, Robert Devart, and Charles Devart. Lindy is survived by his three children: Beth Ann Christian and husband Rick of Flemington, Allen Lee “Al” Devart of Winchester, VA, and Adam Linn Devart of Rosemont; eight grandchildren: Josh Turner (Krista), Darren Turner (Jess), Bethany Christian, Austin Devart, Annika Devart, Ali Devart, Hunter Devart, and Andrew Devart; three great-grandchildren: Brenna, Blake, and Waker Turner; six siblings: Barbara Godwin of Burnsville, Sherry Alfred (Peter) of Naples, FL, Mary Jo Stewart of Mogadore, OH, Polly Garzony (Larry) of Bowling Green, OH, Patricia Boyles of Flemington, and Pastor Gary Devart (Debbie) of Astor,WV; brother-in-law Jimmy Yocco of OH; and sister-in-law Frankie Devart of Pruntytown. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mr. Devart attended Flemington High School and then served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Basilan. He was a member of the Bailey Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Flemington and Shriners, as well as the Eastern Star. Lindy was an avid gardener and loved the Washington Football (Washington Redskins) team. He was also very active with the Flemington Elementary School where he was the “Recycling Grandpa,” collecting things to be recycled and then donating the money back to the reading program for the students. Mr. Devart also served as Santa Clause at the school, for the Clarksburg Christmas events, and for many churches over the years. He was always the friendly face around town in his old green Ford pickup-truck and shared smiles and waves to everyone he saw. Over the years he also enjoyed his furry companions, “Ashes and Sheba,” and his most recent “Cocoa” who along with his family and many friends will miss him dearly. A Celebration of Life for Lindy will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 12:30pm at the Bailey Memorial United Methodist Church in Rosemont.
