David Lee Thomas
<p>David Lee Thomas, 69, of Leola, died Friday, January 1, 2021 at his home in Leola. A committal was held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Green Mound Cemetery in Leola. </p> <p>David was born July 27, 1951 at Ipswich, SD to David and Leone (Eichelberg) Thomas. He grew up in Leola and graduated from Leola High School. He then attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from the University of South Dakota. </p> <p>Following graduation David returned to Leola. He worked for a short time at the Hi-Way Café and later painted barns and houses in the area. </p> <p>David was a quiet soul who is remembered fondly by his sister and niece and nephews as a very intelligent and funny brother and uncle. He loved to read and even read textbooks to quench his lifelong desire for knowledge. He liked the solitude and slow, peaceful life of Leola where he could often be found with a can of Coca-Cola or a cup of coffee and a candy bar. He enjoyed visits with neighbors and was fond of cooking “exotic” foods. His family looked forward to his cooking in years past when he would visit them. </p> <p>He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Roe of Brookings; nephews and niece, David (Heather) Roe of Elkton, SD, Natalie (Chris) Ganske of Fargo, ND and Michael (Molly) Roe of Winters, CA; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. </p> <p>He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bob Roe. </p> <p>Arrangements were entrusted to Gramm Funeral Home of Ipswich.
