David Gerry Bartol, 14th Generation Mayflower Descendent David Gerry Bartol, 60, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2020 at his Boston home. David is survived by six siblings: Franklin J. Bartol (Christine), Virginia B. Armstrong (Ron Hamilton), Nancy H. Bartol (Alan Peed), Barbara A. Riley (Paul), William E. Bartol (Christine Friel) and twin sister Diane V. Harrington (Tom). He was a devoted uncle to nieces Kelsey and Hannah and nephews Matt, K.C, Ben, Rob, William, and Colin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Franklin H. and Helen Bartol, his maternal grandmother, Marie Beckendorf, his brother-in-law Robert, and his niece, Kelsey S. Harrington. David grew up in New London and graduated from St. Bernard H.S. in Uncasville. He went on to the University of Connecticut, where in 1983 he carried a double major to earn Bachelor of Science degrees in both Chemical and Materials Engineering. He continued his education at Northeastern University in Boston where he was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Computer Systems and Engineering in 1989. Davids career began at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corp. in Groton, CT as a Submarine Design and Construction Engineer and extended through 2011 when he retired from Coventry Healthcare (Burlington, MA) as their Senior Database Administrator. His interim career history is extensive and includes positions at State Street Global Advisors (Sybase Database Administrator); JP Morgan Chase (Oracle Database Administrator); Fidelity Investments (Sybase Database Administration Consultant); Lotus Development (Database Administrator and Application Development Programmer/ Analyst); and Metcalf & Eddy (Database Administrator on the MWRA Boston Harbor Cleanup Project). David was an amateur astronomer, U.S. currency collector, and avid traveler. His favorite destinations included Prague, Paris, Amsterdam, and Cancuns ancient archaeological sites at Chichen Itza. As a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, David was a passionate historian and genealogist. He was a 14th generation descendent of Isaac Allerton of the Mayflower and a direct descendent of John Bartoll of Crewkerne, England, one of the earliest settlers of Marblehead, MA. David was very active with ancestry.com and helped many in finding their roots and burial grounds of their distant family members. David will be forever mourned and remembered by his loving family. At Davids request, trees will be planted in his name. Due to COVID restrictions, funeral arrangements are private. He will rest beside his grandmother, parents and niece in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London, CT. and a Mass will be said for him at a future date. Donations in Daves memory may be made to the Kelsey S. Harrington Foundation, supporting special needs children and their families. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London is assisting the family with the arrangements.
