Jeryl Ann Martin Obituary

Jeryl Ann Shultz was born on October 3, 1955 in Montevideo, MN to Gerald and Marlys (Tebben) Shultz. She was baptized in Montevideo and her dad remembers her as an early riser that was usually up by 6 AM. Jeryl graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1974 before taking cosmetology classes in Willmar, MN for a couple of years. On November 16, 1974 Jeryl married Howard Martin in Hazel Run and the couple had three children: Amy, Adam, and Emily. For 28 years, Jeryl worked as the dietary manager at the Clarkfield Care Center, a job that allowed her to get to know the community through her interactions with the residents and their families. Known by many to be loving and caring, she treated everyone with kindness and respect regardless. Her hugs were genuine and her laughter unique, and Jeryl and her unconditional love were the anchor that kept the family together.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were everything to her and she was never afraid to stand up for those she loved. Jeryl loved camping, spending time at Lake Hubert near Nisswa with family, cheering for the Vikings, sneaking in naptime, and cooking, especially holiday meals. Her Shepherd’s pie and Poke cake were family favorites and in the words of her husband Howard, “she cooked enough for the nursing home for just the two of us.”

On Wednesday, December 30th, 2020, at the age of 65, Jeryl passed away peacefully at her home in Hazel Run. She is preceded in death by her mother, Marlys Shultz; brother, Kevin Shultz; granddaughter, Elizabeth Martin, and parents-in-law, Bill and Margaret Martin.

Jeryl is survived by dad, Gerald (Sharon) Shultz; brother, Scott (Shelley) Shultz; husband of 46 years, Howard; children, Amy (Nick) Lukken, Adam (Jamie) Martin, and Emily (David Johnson) Martin; grandchildren, Keegan (Skylar) Martin, Jayden Lukken, Blake Wells, Jaxton Wells, Regan Johnson, Nolan Johnson, Austin Martin, and Hadley Martin; great-grandchild, Motley Martin; several aunts and uncles, many cherished nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Oreo, aka “puss puss.”

A private graveside service will be held at Hazel Run Lutheran Cemetery.
