Bruce Calkins, 60, of New Bloomfield, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 10, 1953, in Eugene, Oregon, a son of Eleanor M. Calkins. In his early childhood he traveled the world with his missionary parents. Bruce was a secretary for Rev. Larry and Penny Rice (New Life Evangelist Center) from 1996 through 2012. He was also the editor of the New Life Center Cry Justice newsletter. He enjoyed working with the homeless and helping prisoners. He was in the process of writing his autobiography prior to his death. Bruce had many friends and was very involved in activities and prayer meetings at JCN&R. He loved cats and had have three of his own (Stinky his favorite, Miss Kitty and Cuddles). One of his last requests before passing away was to enjoy the company of cats, this request was carried out by some new friends: Caroline and Greg. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
