Daphne Lucille Hyatt Obituary

Daphne Lucille Hyatt, 92, of Peachtree City passed away on December 23,2020. Daphne was born on August 17,1928 to Ray and Minnie Weatherman in Ivanhoe, Virginia, where she grew up with her parents and two sisters. After graduating from high school, she attended Radford College and then returned home to work in the local elementary school. On May 10,1949, she married Robert Lee Hyatt, who was also from Ivanhoe and was serving in the US Navy. Their life in the Navy involved many moves and transfers. They and their two children, Debbie, and Tim found themselves living all over the world in such places as Guam, Bainbridge Island, Washington D.C., Japan, and Virginia. Shortly after the family’s return from an overseas assignment in Japan, she began teaching preschool and then later kindergarten in Fairfax County, Virginia. In 1985, upon Bob’s retirement, they moved to their own “Shangrila” in Pinehurst, NC. Daphne and Bob were passionate gardeners, and the yard around their Pinehurst home was a pleasure for all to view. They were involved in the community of Pinehurst, working tirelessly for their church and Habitat for Humanity, as well as many other community organizations. Daphne and Bob joined the local croquet club and became enthusiastic players. In 2007, they left Pinehurst and moved to a small community in St. Simon’s Cove in Peachtree City, Georgia. In 2017, they moved to the independent living community of Somerby and made a bevy of very dear friends. Her husband Bob passed away on April 18, 2019. Upon his death, they had been married just three weeks short of seventy years. Theirs was a truly dedicated and loving marriage. Daphne and Bob had two children, Debbie, and Tim, seven grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. What a legacy they forged. A woman of faith, Daphne loved her Heavenly Father, her family, and friends. Daphne was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents, and her sister Barbara Gravley. She is survived by her older sister Maxine Hyatt; son, Robert T. Hyatt (Paula); daughter, Deborah Coulson (Danny); grandchildren, Jeffrey Conner, Jennifer Porter, Jessica Chambers, Leslie Hostinsky, Jamie Hatch, Ashley Scoggins, Craig Hyatt, and 18 great grandchildren. Daphne was a dignified, gracious lady who maintained her independence and determination to the end. She will be greatly missed. May she rest in the presence of the Lord. A Memorial Service will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity.
