Darla Marie Dudley

Darla Dudley, 63 of Abilene, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020. Her cremation has been entrusted to Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Services for Darla are being planned and she will be buried next to her father, mother, and sister in the Seagraves Cemetery in Seagraves, Texas. Darla Marie Dudley was born on August 15, 1957, in Gains County, Texas, to parents Denson Dudley and Betty Jane (Clark) Dudley. Growing up, she attended Seagraves Independent School District, followed by Allied American University from which she received her Criminal Justice degree. In the summer of 1989, at the age of 31, Darla enlisted in the US Army. After nearly 15 years of service, she was honorably discharged in May of 2004. And two years later, in May of 2006, her reserve obligation ended. While enlisted, she served in several tours of duty overseas including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait. Additionally, she received many medals and decorations during her service. Prior to her passing, Darla was employed at the TDCJ French Robertson Unit in Abilene. Darla loved her longhorns, horses, donkeys, dogs, and cats. The land she owned was her place of solitude and she loved the hard work of taking care of her livestock. Since Darla had no children, she considered her animals her children. She never minded doing whatever was needed to manage both her place and working at the prison. She was a strong, private woman and will be dearly missed. Darla is survived by one sister, Sharon Trigg and husband John of Breckenridge; one brother, Ricky Dudley and wife Jeanettia of Levelland; along with seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Denson & Betty Dudley, along with her sister, Jana Miller. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com
