Arlene "Joan" Gibbs Obituary

Arlene "Joan" Gibbs, 89, residing at Washington Square Nursing Home, peacefully went home to the Lord Monday, February 11, 2019. Arlene, who liked to be called Joan, was born July 19, 1929, in Warren, Ohio where she lived her whole life. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Cora L. (Van Kirk) Harris. At age 16, she worked at Kresges food counter in downtown Warren, where she met Harry W. Gibbs. They married January 13, 1947, and had 45 years together before his passing in 1992. As a stay at home parent, Joan was happy raising her three children. She later returned to the work force working at Imperial Nursing Home as a supply clerk for 25 years, until she retired. She loved being with family, sewing, reading, cooking, taking walks, planting flowers and caring for her pets. She dearly loved her family and made sure we all got together for holidays every year. Joan was very generous and caring. She had a full life, lived well. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Gibbs Thellman of Warren, Ohio; grandchildren, Rachael (Billy) Bobbitt-Cindea of Warren, Amanda Cindea and Amos Case of Warren, Angela (Shawn) Hughes of Niles, Jared Gibbs of Oklahoma, Nick Gibbs of Boardman, Tonya (Cody) Ferguson of Tennessee, Jake (Airka) Gibbs of Minnesota, Adam (Diane)Gibbs of Howland, Amelia (Richard) Sanker of Austintown, and Lizzy (Jonathan) Burr of Kinsman; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry W. Gibbs; sons, Bryan F. and Eric A. Gibbs; and son-in-law, Larry Thellman. We thank all who took excellent care of Joan at Washington Square Nursing Home. We also thank Harbor Lights Hospice for their care during her last days. Services will be held at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home on Friday, February 15, 2019, at 10:00 AM, where Mr. William Cindea will officiate. Friends may call from 9:00AM to 10:00AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park, Warren, Ohio. The family requests that material contributions be made to the Animal Welfare League,812 Youngstown Kingsville Road SE, Vienna, Ohio, 44473 in her memory.
