Janet Rowlands Corby

Janet Evelyn Soule Rowlands Corby, 85, of Oriskany, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. She was born May 28, 1930, in Utica, a daughter of Reginald H. and Helen Dougherty Soule. Janet was a graduate of Whitesboro Central High School, and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She married Thomas Rowlands, and together they had three children. Later she married Carlton Corby. Both husbands have predeceased her. Janet worked for New York Telephone Co. for many years. She also worked as a nurse. She was a very religious woman. Janet was a member of the Floyd Instrumental Ensemble, Utica Chapter #452 O.E.S., National Covered Bridge Society as well as Covered Bridge Societies in NY, OH and PA. Janet seemed to excel at everything she attempted. She loved crafts of all types, photography, flower gardening, baking and cake decorating. Her survivors include her three children, Daniel Henry and wife Lucinda Rowlands, Diane Helene Rowlands, and Daryl Henry Rowlands; grandchildren, Thomas Henry Rowlands, Caedyn Rose Rowlands, and Collin Thomas Rowlands; her brother, Reginald Soule; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; cousins; and other family members, including Dorothy Soule. She was predeceased by her sister, Jacqueline Elaine Carosi; a niece Kathi Randall; and a nephew Paul Soule. Memorial service will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 400 North George St., Rome, NY. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
