Martin Hansen Obituary

Martin Hansen

June 23, 1948 – December 9, 2020 Bentley, Alberta

Farmer. Neighbour. Uncle. Brother. Son.

Martin immigrated to Canada as a little boy in 1954 from Denmark,
and the family settled on a farm in the Sylvan Lake area. Years later,
as young adults, Martin & his brother Jack bought their first farm
together in the Bentley area (Forshee) in the early 1970s. After a time
the brothers created their own separate farms, but remained close
throughout the years. Uncle Martin was a big part of Jack’s family’s life
and continued to this day.

A talented farmer, an eccentric neighbor, a beloved uncle, brother
& son. A keen mind and wit, lively discussion was always on the
table when Martin was around. Resistant to the digital age, Martin
did finally “give in” when a “smartphone” was a necessary part of
starting his new truck. Motivation is everything. Humor was never
far from hand either. Denglish, the spoken language of many Danish
immigrants was part of family banter and always a guaranteed laugh.
Miss an episode of Seinfeld? Martin could help you out! World politics,
history, no problem.

But at the core, farming was the backdrop of his life. Early childhood
photos of Martin were always with farm animals or out in the middle
of a field, and in that regard, little changed over his lifetime.

Survived by his sister Joanne Hansen (Trish Stenson), his brother
Jack’s family, Connie Hansen, Warren Hansen (Tricia) & family,
Christine Beermann (Nick) & family, Jackie Ann Heck (Gord) & family,
and Lisa Jo Heck (Ryan) & family, and brother Soren’s family, Dana
Hansen (Morten Pedersen), and Kylene Heykants (Adam). Martin
was predeceased by his brothers Soren Hansen and Jack Hansen,
father Kaj Hansen, mother Valborg Hansen, and step-mother Erna
Christensen.

We are all the sum of our relationships with each other. Do you have
