Patricia Dawn Moffet Obituary

1940-2020 Scotts Valley, California Our dear mother, Patricia Dawn Moffet, passed away at her home Wednesday December 16th, 2020 of complications due to Colon Cancer. Mom was a fighter to the very end, showing strength, courage, dignity and optimism throughout her illness. No matter what the setback, she pressed forward. She is survived by her children Alan (Tricia), Brian (Naomi), and Suzanne (Erik); her grandchildren Kyle, Ryan (Madison), Kalyn (Eric), Erika and Zach, and one great grandchild, Adalyn. She is also survived by her brothers Peter (Linda) and William (Ruth), sister-in-law Joan, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pat was born in New Jersey in 1940 but spent her youth in Pennsylvania. In 1958, while working in Washington D.C., she met Michael and they were married the next year. Following a few years in Japan, they settled their family in California. For a decade, Mike was often away because of his service in the Navy, and mom supported him and our country by raising us. She and dad put their children’s needs first. When Mike was finally able to work at Treasure Island as an instructor or developing curriculum, they settled into a more normal life. Smart and independent, mom occasionally got behind the wheel of a sports car for a race or learned to ride a motorcycle so she could ride with dad. Mom worked as a Secretary and office manager for Monarch International and completed her associate degree in Supervision and Management at SJCC. Together, while living in Foresthill, California, they volunteered hundreds of hours for Placer County. Much of their time was spent at the Foresthill Divide Museum or the annual Garage Sale for the Volunteer Firefighter Association. Pat also served in the Sheriff’s Department. Mom loved animals. She especially loved her two cats, Amy and Brin - who she adopted from Project Purr. She also loved flowers and other beautiful plants. When we visited botanical gardens, she talked about the many varieties and took notes on some she did not know much about. She enjoyed caring for the plants she had at home. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed collecting antique glass or making things from stained glass. We will miss her. Donations in Pat's memory may be made to Project Purr in Santa Cruz, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
