Lunolia Augusta Young Simmons was born May 11, 1924 in Louisville, KY to William & Magnolia Young. Lunolia was 2 years old when the family relocated to Princeton, IN and resided in Gibson County until she departed this life on December 21, 2020 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.

Lunolia was a homemaker to her husband, Ivan Simmons, Sr. and also to her children whom she loved dearly.

In 1986, Lunolia became a teacher’s aide at the first Head Start Program in Princeton. There she was loved by students and parents due to her natural ability to teach and nurture children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ivan, and two infant children, Stephen Edward Simmons and Claudine Ann Simmons. Also preceded were sisters, Anna Mae Alvis, Eliza Smith and Dorothy Young and brothers, Moses Young, Raymond Young, L.C. Young, Paul Young and James Young, a grandson, Jason Simmons.

She leaves to cherish her memory, 6 sons, Bertis Paul, William Wayne, Sr. (Felicia), Ivan Heber, Jr. (Midori), John Squire, Carl Ray (Kim), Ricky Alan (Bronda) and 5 daughters, Iva Harvey (Joseph), Alfreda Harrison (Jimmy), Joyce Sullivan (Kenneth, Sr.), Fayola Green and Maria Simmons. Lunolia also leaves 46 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Greater Holy Temple Family Worship Center located at 202 E. Pinkney St. in Princeton, officiated by Apostle William W. Simmons Sr. Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery near Lyles Station. Visitation will be from 9 until 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. Due to state mandated COVID-19 regulations, there is a maximum of 25 people allowed inside the funeral home and at the graveside. Those who wish to attend the service, please bring your mobile device and be prepared to view the service from your vehicle or your home on the Colvin Funeral Homes Facebook page.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Greater Holy Temple Family Worship Center or Cape Head Start Gibson County, 402 N. Ford St., Princeton, IN 47670. Envelopes will also be available at Colvin's and the church.
