Irene Stevenson Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Irene Stevenson, 90, of Ipswich, is 10:30 AM Friday, May 14, 2021 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich.  Burial will follow the service at the Ipswich City Cemetery.

Irene was born May 9, 1931 to Elmer Julius and Amanda Marie (Giese) Stevenson at Ipswich, SD.  She was raised and attended school in Ipswich, graduating from Ipswich High School.

Irene spent her entire life in Ipswich, working first as a clerk in the Edmunds County Courthouse.  She then worked for many years as a clerk for F.E.M. Electric before retiring.  She was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society, Lady Foresters, and was a member of the Legion of Mary.  She had also served on the Ipswich Library Board and was a member of the local TOPS club.

Irene never learned to drive and could often be seen walking to and from in town.  She always had a smile on her face and shared an infectious laugh with others.  Irene loved music and dancing.  She was a kind and gentle soul who never asked for anything but was always willing to share.

She passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Avantara Healthcare in Ipswich. Her funeral arrangements were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Lila Johnson of Ipswich and Betty (Lloyd) Rausch of Windsor, CO; her brother, LeRoy “Buzz” (Diane) Stevenson of Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew Tom Rausch and her brother-in-law, Earl Johnson.
