Valda J. Forrer Obituary

Valda Forrer (nee Silis) of Southampton, NJ, formerly of Bergenfield, NJ died Monday, April 17, 2006 at Virtua West Jersey Hospital in Voorhees. She was 81. Mrs. Forrer was born in Riga, Latvia. She left Latvia during World War II and lived in Germany until she emigrated to the United States in 1949. After WWII, she worked as a nurse on the American liberty ships where she met her future husband, Daniel Forrer. They married in 1950 and remained married for 55 years until his death this past March. She raised two children, Christine Gaydos and Joan Forrer in Bergenfield, NJ. She was devoted to her family and worked as a nurse for many years. She was active in the Latvian Church of New York where she participated as a presiding officer and in the Ladies Church Council. Mrs. Forrer and her husband retired to Southampton, NJ where they lived in Leisuretown until the present time. Mrs. Forrer is the beloved wife of the late Daniel A. She is the loving mother of Christine (James) Gaydos and Joan Forrer. She is the loving grandmother of Michael and Kristen Gaydos. She is the sister of Guna Silis. Funeral services for Mrs. Forrer will be Thursday 1 PM at the Lechner Funeral Home, 24 N. Main St., Medford. Interment will be on Friday, 12 Noon, in the chapel at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. A viewing will be held Thursday afternoon from 12 Noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Forrer’s memory would be appreciated to the Latvian Church of New York, 4 Riga La., Melville, NY 11747.
