Donald Fraser Wilson, 77, of Salinas, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at home with his family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Dona Jean Wilson, in April 2005.

He was born in Santa Cruz to Alfred and Mary Wilson.

Donald served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Wiseman and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Donald graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. In 1956, he started working for Monterey County Public Works Department as a civil engineer. He retired in 1990 as Commissioner of Roads for Monterey County. Donald was active in Monterey Bay Chapter American Public Works Association and served as president in 1975. He was also a member of County Engineers Association of California and Retired Public Employees Association.

He was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. In his years of service to the church, he was an elder, chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee, and member of the chancel and handbell choirs. His home was always open to family and friends. His hobbies were golf, fishing, carpentry, skiing, sailing and spending time in the mountains at Pinecrest Lake. He enjoyed spending time at the ocean and traveling to visit friends and family.

Survivors: Children, Dana Lynn Vivit, Donald Fraser Wilson Jr., Diana Jean Wilson and Douglas Fraser Wilson; grandchildren, Apolinario, Christopher, Kyle, Sean, Madelynn and Jessica.


Celebration of Life: 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 315 E. Alvin Drive, Salinas.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations to Northminster Presbyterian Church.
