Milton Charles Kurtz

Milton was born September 1925 and died peacefully at home on July 24, 2008 surrounded by his family. Milton raised his family in Saratoga, CA and then later moved to the Monterey Peninsula where he enjoyed his many friends and family life for over 20 years. His passion was flying and spending time with his friends at the airport. He also loved rock hunting, where he amassed an impressive collection of rock and mineral specimens. Milton had an amazing scientific mind and a remarkable career. His work at Spectra Physics was instrumental in developing and completing the bar-code scanner. His professional achievements also led to advancements in optical-based computer storage devices. Milton is survived by his wife, June of 62 years, his three children, Keith Kurtz of Prunedale, Kristin Butler of Monterey, and Kim Floyd of Aptos; and three grandchildren, Brian Butler and Brett Butler of Monterey and Grace Kurtz of Vancouver, Washington. Service will be held at Cypress Community Church at 681 Monterey Salinas Hwy on Saturday, August 9th at 11:00 am. A gathering will be held directly after the church service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Cypress Community Church or Hospice of Central Coast is appreciated.

George and I met Milton at the Cardio-Pulmonary rehab a few years back, we formed a great friendship which was present all the while. Even though we had not seen him for a long while the good memories of that friendship linger on. We will miss him
