<p>Joseph Almeida, 74, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rosa (Marmelo) Almeida. He is the son of the late Artur and Carmo (Rodrigues) Almeida. He was born in Quintas, Portugal. He had lived in Acushnet for 45 years and was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church. Joseph was employed by Barletta Construction for 40 years. He was a member of the Portuguese American Athletic Club, where he played soccer for many years. Survivors include his wife, Rosa, his daughters Sandra Ferreira and her husband Peter of Acushnet, Susan Almeida of Acushnet; he was the &ldquo;best VoVo&rdquo; to Lindsey, Luke, Tessa, &ldquo;Boots&rdquo; and &ldquo;Jax&rdquo;. He is also survived by his brother Hipolito Almeida of CT., his sisters Alice Moura of Lakeville, Teresa Hegarty of New Bedford, Tila Pinto of Fairhaven and&nbsp;many nieces and&nbsp;nephews that he loved to &ldquo;CANACA!!&rdquo;. Also, brother and sisters -in laws that&nbsp;he loved so dearly. He was the brother of the late Henrique Almeida of Dartmouth and Carlos Almeida of Acushnet.&nbsp; Due to COVID-19, and everyone being at high risk during this uncertain time, his funeral services will be private. We want all of our cherished family and friends to stay safe. On behalf of Joseph&rsquo;s family, we would like to thank everyone who has reached out to us and console us as we grieve. We appreciate everyone&rsquo;s thoughts and prayers; we will cherish as our days feel so empty and lonely. Our dad was a wonderful, mild mannered, easy going, simple man. He enjoyed being outside and tending to his garden. He was loved by so many; please take a moment to remember him and a memory of him. We are sure he will be thinking it too! Smile with him today, as God receives him into his garden of Angels. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the St. Jude&rsquo;s Children&rsquo;s Hospital or The Dana Farber Cancer Institute.&nbsp;</p>
