Joyce Lere Maloney, age 93, departed this life on December 13, 2020. Joyce was born March 8, 1927 in Union County near Dongola, Illinois, to Louis Herman Toler and Minnie Ann (Fisher) Toler. Her family moved to Murphysboro in 1932. She married William "Bill" Paul Maloney May 30, 1948 in Murphysboro. Bill preceded her in death February 9, 1985. Joyce was employed for several years as an accountant for the J.V. Walker and Sons Clothing Stores, once a prominent men's clothing chain in southern Illinois. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Carbondale, where she had served as a Deacon and Elder. She was also active in the Christian Women's Ministries. Joyce was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering for several years in the Pink Geranium Gift Shop and serving on the Auxiliary Board. For many years she had volunteered for the "Meals on Wheels" program. She was a member of the SIU Alumni Association. Joyce is survived by one son, Jeffrey Paul Maloney of Carbondale. Other survivors are Sandra Lere McRoy ofMurphysboro, as well as several other cousins. Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents were two brothers, Donald in infancy, and Clayton Toler. As requested by Joyce, private graveside services will be held at Tower Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro. Memorials may be made to The First Christian Church, 306 West Monroe, Carbondale, Illinois, St Francis Cares, or to the charity of your choice.
