Verna Campbell May, was born on March 3, 1918 to the late Alvin Duvall and Ida Chaney Campbell. Verna married James Kelly May, January 1945. This union was blessed with two children: one son Kelly Gordon May (Kathy) of Ezel, Ky. and one daughter, Betty Hylton (Bill) of Sevierville, TN. They lived a happy marriage until his death in 1982. Verna was a graduate of Pikeville High School and Pikeville College. She then Became a school teacher and served in that capacity until retirement. Verna was a faithful member of Chloe Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. Also surviving are three grandsons, Bryan May (Lisa) of Pikeville, Billy Hylton (Carrie) of Sevierville, TN, Matt May of Pikeville, Ky.; two granddaughters, Kristal Breeden (Steve) of Knoxville, TN and Gina Roberts (Randy) of Pikeville, KY.; two great-grandchildren, Ishmael May and Sha Carter (Brian) both of Pikeville, Ky.; two great-great-grandsons, Nate and Nick Roberts; one great-great-great-granddaughter, Isabella May; one sister, Lena Coleman of Pikeville, Ky. Verna Campbell May went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Verna journeyed on this earth ninety-six years. She loved her family and while we grieve our loss on earth we believe she is rejoicing with our Heavenly Father in Heaven. She was preceded in death by five brothers, John Willard Campbell, Carmel Campbell, James Cephas Campbell, Thomas Raymond Campbell, David Curtis Campbell and two sisters, Aletha Campbell and Esta Campbell Tackett. Visitation: Visitation will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m. Thursday and all day Friday with evening services at 7 p.m Friday. Funeral: Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday July 26, 2014 at the Chloe Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. Interment: Burial will follow in the Campbell Cemetery on Chloe Road.
