Obituary
Mary Sue Purvis Layne, age 92, formerly of Olympia, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Ridgeway Manor in Owingsville. Born May 2, 1923, in Morehead, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Nora Lyons Purvis. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Haney, and her husband, Charles Layne. Mrs. Layne is survived by two sons, Charles Michael 'Mike' Layne and wife Beverly of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Gary Patrick 'Pat' Layne of Olympia; one daughter, Linda Cecile Layne of Olympia; five grandchildren, Heather Layne, Matthew Layne, Jason Hart, Jonathan Hart, Amber McLean Ensor; a step grandson, Terry Hart; and seven great grandchildren, Donovan Layne, Larken Ensor, Rory Ensor, Piper Ensor, Claire Hart, Weston Hart, and Vanessa Layne Hall. Other survivors include a sister, Nancy Lewis of Evansville, Indiana, several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friend, Kyle McLean. Susie graduated from Breckinridge Training School as valedictorian of her class and attended Morehead State University. She loved animals, especially dogs, enjoyed reading, walking, and nature in general. Before she got arthritis, she enjoyed making homemade bread and crocheting. She attended the Mud Lick Church of God and was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mike Layne, Pat Layne, Jason Hart, Jonathan Hart, Donovan Layne, Kyle McLean. Visitation is 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
