David Matheson

David Hulet Matheson was born August 6, 1940 in Cedar City, Utah to Joseph Mickelson Matheson and Ruby Hulet Matheson, He passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2020 at the hospital in Cedar city. Dave was raised in a loving home in Parowan Utah. He was the oldest of 4 children. He spent his childhood with his uncles herding sheep until he was old enough to herd on his own at age 14. He attended school in Parowan and was a member of the FFA. In 1958 he met the love of his life Laurel Smith on the night of his high school graduation. They were married on June 16, 1961 at the Old Rock Church in Cedar City, They were later sealed in the St George Temple. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Dave and Laurel lived in Parowan for one year after they were married then moved to Cedar City because of his work. They lived there for 8 years but Dave wanted to move back home to his beloved Parowan. They were blessed with 5 children. Kelli De, David Cleve, Colleen, Daina Lee, Cade Smith. Dave built their family home in Parowan in 1970 with the help of Roger Burt. Dave worked for 41 years in the glass business where he made many friends. Dave loved the outdoors especially Co-op Valley. In the mid 60’s Dave went to see his dads first cousin Roy Adams, to ask him if he would sale a small piece of property to camp with his family in Co-op Valley, Roy declined but said “Dave your welcome to camp with your family as long as you like” He camped in Co-op valley with his wife and family for 30 plus years, he helped Herm Adams with the Adams sheep herd, mended fences, repaired gates, cleaned out springs, helped herd the Adams cows, and chased out of state intruders off of the property. Just for the privilege of raising his kids and spending every summer and fall with his family in co-op which he believed was his heaven on earth. Dave loved the outdoors, riding horses, herding sheep, camping, hunting, He took many trophy animals, Some of his favorite times were spent hunting with his sons, son in laws and grandsons and grandsons in law, He loved fishing and spent a lot of time on his boat with Lar and his cousin Craig and Vickie Matheson and grandkids. Many trips were made hauling wood much to his children’s disgust. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Ruby, Sister Julia Lister, Brother Joseph Bevan, Grandson David Alzugaray Matheson and Great Granddaughter Macee Rose May. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 ½ years Laurel. His Children Kelli (Lance) Evans, Cleve (Stephanie) Matheson, Colleen Matheson, Daina (Rick) Little, Cade (Susan) Matheson. Sister RaNae Wardell, Sister in law Julie R. Matheson. 18 Grandkids, 23 Great Grandkids. The Family would like to thank the great Doctors and Nurses at the Cedar City Hospital for taking such loving care of their sweet husband and Dad. Graveside services will be held Wednesday December 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Parowan City cemetery under the direction of Affordable Funeral Services.
