Hazel Black of Rockton, IL died at 9:07 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 9th in 1933, the daughter of James and Edna Garner. Hazel married Allen R Black in Manchester free church on February 27, 1955 and they were married 53 years. Hazel grew up on a dairy farm in rural South Beloit, IL with her 3 brothers, Dick, Bob and Stan. She married Allen Black in 1955 and would subsequently raise 4 children while helping on the farm. Over the years she took on several part-time jobs, one as a cook in the cafeteria at Hononegah High School, a short order cook at Macktown golf course, delivering newspapers and using her sewing skills to make creative pillows with family friends. When her children were young she was involved with the PTA at Pleasant View grade school and many of the events promoted by the school. She continued to be involved with her children's education throughout the years. She was a woman full of love and happiness which she showed to everyone. She will be missed. She was a member of Shirland Methodist Church and was known for her pie baking skills for the dinners held by the church. She enjoyed her memberships in groups including a 25 year member of the Grinnell Senior Citizen Hall Goldenaires Chorus, 25 year member of the Rockton Women's Club, a member of the New Century Book Club and a 25 year member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Rock County (RSVP). Hazel was also able to fit in her love of gardening, love of nature and most especially her love for her backyard birds. Over the years she sewed beautiful quilts for her children, grandchildren and also had a sewing circle where several of her friends met weekly to have breakfast and work on sewing projects. She loved to play the piano and over the years she accompanied her chorus group, played for the church services and for family gatherings. Survivors include her children Gwendolyn Stone of Orlando, FL, Sandra (Tom) Franke of Chatham, IL, William Black of Rockton, IL and Michael(Ann)Black of Rockton, IL; grandchildren Kaylyn, Jillian, Scott, Kimberly, Savanna, Wesley and Holly. She is also survived by a brother Richard and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Allen and two brothers Robert and Stanley. Private funeral services to be held with a livestream starting at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2020 on Zoom, information is listed below. Final resting place in Rockton Township Cemetery, Rockton, IL. McCorkle Funeral Home -Rockton Chapel assisted the family. A celebration of life will be held later in 2021.
