Jerry Ott Simpson Obituary

December 1st 2020, Jerry Ott Simpson of Cleveland TN went to be with Jesus. Born in Flintstone Georgia onApril 11th, 1937 he is (IS not WAS) a great man, an incredible artist who's work has graced the walls of a Cherokee exhibits in national buildings, one who believed that a man is only judged by the content of his character, who loves others, who shares hilarious stories, and who looked a lot like Willie Nelson. He taught us all how to draw and always praised our work (even when we knew it was terrible), he played his guitar when we were little and let us dance until we got too tired. He taught wisdom, acceptance, equality, hard work, compassion, humor, he taught us that there is always a solution to any problem (you just have to get a little creative), that anyone could be a good driver as long as you "keep it between the ditches", that one of the most important things when robbing a bank is to make sure your get away car isn't a bicycle, and that selfish ambition will "rot your brain, taking away your reason" so always pursue holiness, with a lot of grace for imperfection. He served our nation proudly as a medic in the United State Army. The world lost a brilliant man but God gained someone to help Him paint the sunsets. So today, go hug someone who looks a little like a famous singer, or anyone you call papaw. Tonight we will watch the sunset, thinking of the man who would know exactly what shade of pink it is, listen to Tennessee Waltz, and thank our Heavenly Father for the time He gave us. His memory is held dearly by his wife of 58 years Glenda Brock Simpson, his daughters Cynthia Simpson Gray (husband Ed Gray) and Kaye Simpson McGuffey (husband Norman McGuffey) . He is treasured by his grandchildren Whitney Brandon, Morgan Brandon, Emily McGuffey Cline (husband Hunter Cline), Sarah McGuffey Evors ( husband Ethan Evors), Daniel McGuffey as well as his great grand daughters Marley Brandon and Isabelle Cline. A Private Celebration of Life and Home going for Jerry Ott Simpson will be held at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home. A Private interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemtery with Military Honors concluding the services.
