Joyce L. (Peterson) Huntrods, loving and dedicated Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, 92, passed away December 4 , 2020, at Rolling Green Village, Nevada, Iowa, of Covid. Joyce was born July 26, 1928, at home in rural Harcourt, Iowa, to Elmer and Esther (Nelson) Peterson. Elmer and Esther owned and operated a farm near Harcourt where their three daughters were born. Joyce graduated from Lanyon High School. In 1946, the family moved to Des Moines where Joyce met Bill Huntrods. Joyce worked at Farm Bureau a few years. Bill and Joyce were married on June 13, 1948, at Union Park Methodist Church in Des Moines. They enjoyed 64 years of life together in the Collins, Iowa, rural community. Joyce was a member of the Christian Church in Collins and its Ada Circle and Christian Women’s Fellowship as well as serving as a Deaconness. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, gardening, and antiques. Her delicious cooking and baking will be remembered by many. Joyce helped Bill show Percheron draft horses for many years by braiding the horses’ manes. She loved her family and going to her grandchildren’s activities. Joyce is survived by her four children, Lee (Michelle) Huntrods of Rhodes, Marvin (Chris) Huntrods of Collins, Bill (Karen) Huntrods of Harrison, NE, and Jean (Doug) Foley of Ames; eight grandchildren: Kimberlee (Todd) Nietzel of Muscatine, Trisha (Troy) Houge of Collins, Joel (Tara) Huntrods of Maxwell, Jill Dell of Maxwell, Clint (Abby) Huntrods of Polk City, Shyenna (Austin) Engel of Minitare, NE, Chance (Crystal) Huntrods of Buffalo, WY, and Mika (Will) Haines of Kaycee, WY; eighteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Thompson, of Des Moines. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son Phillip, and one sister, Winifred Myers. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in memory of Joyce for use to be determined at a later date. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 9 at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Masks and social distancing are requested.
