Ida G. Tittley Obituary

Ida G. Tittley was born on January 29, 1928, to her late parents, Ernestine and Isaiah Holmes.  As a young child, Ida always took on the responsibility of helping to care for her siblings and family members.  What seemed to be just tedious chores, later displayed, Ida’s natural maturity, instinct and ability to care for others. Ida attended, I.S 136 Middle/High School and always dreamed of becoming a nurse.  However, as life would have it, those dreams did not come to pass.  Instead of a career in nursing, Ida spent most of her teenage years working odd jobs to help her family. As a young teenager, Ida was introduced to the love of her life, the late William A. Tittley.  In 1944, Ida and William were married.  In 1945, they welcomed their first son, the late William S. Tittley. The next consecutive two years, their union was blessed with their first and only daughter, the late Barbara Tittley-Taitt and second son, Larry A. Tittley.  To their pleasant surprise, in 1963, Ida and William (passionately known as “Son”) were blessed with another son, Steven F. Tittley.  Though he was a big surprise to, Ida and “Son”, he would later prove to be a blessing. Ida spent over 40 years working as a domestic worker.  Though most would shy away from acknowledging this type of work, Ida took great pride in what she did and how she was often referred to as ”part of the family”, by her clients. Although Ida spent many hours working, she always made time to do what she loved, spending quality time with her family.  Time at home was always spent with her husband, children, granddaughter and great-grandsons. In addition to quality time at home, Ida loved talking to and spending time with her siblings.  The Holmes Clan (Joe, Ida, Rosalie, Eugene, Ernestine Jimmy, Freddie and Margaret) never needed a reason to celebrate.  The 70s saw many weekends with the Holmes Clan just getting together to eat, laugh and love. Three years after the birth of her son, Steven, Ida became a grandmother for the first time.  Ida found joy assisting in the rearing of her granddaughter, Laura.  This joy and rearing continued with her being blessed with two great-grandsons.  When it came to those two, they could do no wrong in her eyes.  In their early adult years, she would spend hours talking about things they did that amazed her, from digging a hole in a play pen, caring for their ailing great-grandfather to graduating high school and college. Although, these last two years took a toll on her body, the pain and illnesses could never take a toll on her mind or spirit.  On December 1, 2020, Ida was called home and peacefully transitioned in the comfort of her own home.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaiah and Ernestine Holmes; husband, William (“Son”) Tittley; daughter, Barbara Tittley-Taitt; son, William S. Tittley; and siblings, Jimmy, Joe, Freddie, Ernestine, and Eugene. She leaves to cherish fond memories: sons, Larry and Steven F. Tittley; granddaughter, Laura Tittley; great-grandsons, Steven M.  and Aaron Tittley; daughter-in-law, Flora Tittley; sisters, Rosalie Barker and Margaret Bines; special people, Alice Tittley, William Tittley, Lovely Williams, and Keona Serano; and a host of loving family and friends Submitted in love and sorrow by The Family
