Elvin F. Currant, 82, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at AdventHealth Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Elvin was born January 30, 1938, at Overbrook, Kansas, the son of Ivan F. and Elva M. (Grammer) Currant. He grew up in the Overbrook area moving in 1960 to Ottawa. Elvin was united in marriage to Jane Elder December 2, 1960, at Wellsville, Kansas. They have been happily married for 60 years and had three children, Connie, Mike and Wanda. Elvin was currently employed with Water Systems Engineering in chemical production for 20 years. He previously was employed at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, De Soto, in water treatment and maintenance, from the mid-1960’s to the mid-1990’s. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and volunteered with the Power of the Past Antique Engine and Tractor Association. Elvin loved his work, doing small engine repair, bacon and coffee. He was a people person and liked to make everyone laugh. He loved his family, grandkids and great grandkids. Elvin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dale Currant and his twin, Alvin Currant. Survivors include his wife Janie Currant of the home; three children, Connie Currant, Mike (Jodi) Currant, and Wanda Jane Whitt all of Ottawa; three siblings, Merle (Dorothy) Currant of Florida, Delma Hepner of Lawrence, and Harold (Mary) Currant of St. Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law, Barbara Currant of Lawrence; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
