<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Richard Lewis Helsel, 86 of Altoona died early Friday morning December 4, 2020 at UPMC Altoona.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born September 22, 1934 in Allegheny Township a son of the late George Henry and Olive May&nbsp;(Brubaker) Helsel. He married Barbara Jane Fink on April 11, 1959 in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death January 10, 2013.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Surviving are two children, daughter Helen M. Helsel of Duncansville and son Charles C. &ldquo;Chip&rdquo; Helsel (Jennifer) of Roaring Spring; three grandchildren, Nick Helsel; Laura Helsel (fianc&eacute; Tim Wolchko); Lindsey Helsel; a sister, Leda Hoffman&nbsp;of Altoona; and numerous extended family members.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Richard was preceded in death by siblings, Lavada Stevens, Marie Kaufman and Carl Helsel.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a 1952 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Richard was a U. S. Air Force veteran attaining the rank of Airman First Class.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He retired as a pressman from Butterick-Vogue in 1993 following 27 years&rsquo; service and had also been employed at various times as a professional truck driver.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He enjoyed fixing just about anything and also enjoyed bowling, woodworking and driving tractor trailers.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Richard was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or funeral service.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to the Bedford County Humane Society, 182 Bohn Road, Bedford, PA 15522.</p>

            Richard Lewis Helsel, 86 of Altoona died early Friday morning December 4, 2020 at UPMC Altoona.
