Herbert G. Forrester, Sr. 87, of Jacksonville, and formerly of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, died Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. He was born May 9, 1933, in East Prairie, Missouri, the son of Ira and Ella Barbre Forrester. He married Alvina “Beanie” Hart, the love of his life, on July 26, 1951, in Charleston, Missouri, and she preceded him in death on January 5, 2012. Herbert is survived by four children, Herb (Kathy) Forrester, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Vicki McGrath of Jacksonville, Sandy (Martin) Lonergan of Jacksonville, and David (Brenda) Forrester of Joplin, Missouri; ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Forrester, and eight brothers and sisters. Herbert was a manager for National Food Stores for 42 years, working in Jacksonville from 1960 to 1973, when he moved to Missouri managing stores in Cape Girardeau and Charleston. He was a graduate of Charleston High School (MO) and a member of Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and the Knights of Columbus. He was previously a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau. Herbert enjoyed traveling to visit family, camping, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, watching football and wrestling, and socializing at the senior center. Family meant everything to Herbert. A special thank you to his family at Heritage Health for the wonderful care he received. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020, at Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville. Due to the current pandemic, face mask and social distancing compliance will be required. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to Barton Stone Volunteer Association for the Resident Fund. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
