Thelma Rose Lair

Thelma Rose Huber Lair, 96, of Danville, died Thursday, December 3, 2020 at New London Specialty Care. She was born February 18, 1924 on the family farm near Ft. Atkinson, Iowa to Xeno and Mildred Riehle Huber. On December 7, 1946, she married Calvin Otis Lair in Burlington. He died April 2, 2018. She was a 1943 graduate of Ft. Atkinson High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Burlington. She moved to Burlington in 1943 where she lived with her sister and worked at Cresco Drug. After she met and married Calvin, she was a homemaker and also worked at Sylvania in Burlington, the Glove Factory in New London and IAAP in Middletown. She enjoyed rock hunting and was a jack of all trades, even roofing the house all by herself in 1973. She loved taking walks with the grandchildren to the back creek and was a fun grandma to play with; she was a truly kind and loving person. Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Mary) and Jeffrey (Ana), both of New London; two daughters, Cathy (Joe) Lair-Hensick of Ashland, Oregon and Christine (Jim) Troutman of Danville; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Pavlovic, Ruth Pavlovic, and Helen (Eddie) Langreck all of Ft. Atkinson; one brother, Jim Huber of Wisconsin; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Donald; daughter Constance Warth; two daughters-in-law, Dawn Lair and Carol Lair; two great-granddaughters, Shaelynn and Adalyn; twin great-grandsons, Bradley and Christopher; three brothers, Jr., Robert and Richard Huber; and three sisters, Marie Stafford, Cauletta Amelring and Rose Stammeyer. Visitation will be Sunday, December 6, from 12:00 – 5:00 PM at Elliott Chapel; the family will not be present. Burial will be at 1:00 PM, Monday at Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville with Father Paul Connolly officiating. Please follow social distancing guidelines and masks will be required.
