Hernan Vargas Jimenez Obituary

Hernan Jimenez Sr. was born in a small village called Florencia in the plains of Colombia on 01/05/1932.  He was a farmer’s son who lived the simple life as a youth.  He left for the armed forces but the pull of the big city lead him to the capital of Colombia where he began a career with Goodyear tire company.  He would steadily rise in the ranks to that of paymaster.

He met his wife, Maria Teresa Guerrero, at the company and won her hand by ingratiating himself to his future mother-in-law 1st.  This revealed a significant part of his charm along with the gift of gab.  He always had a smile on his face and a ready joke to entertain.  He loved reading his Colombian joke books and took every opportunity to share these jokes with others.  He married in 1958 and had two sons, Hernan and Victor Luis. Feeling the need to explore and improve upon  his condition, he emigrated to the USA and landed in New York City. This became home and the city itself, the other love of his life.  He immediately entered into the retail world and became the top salesman at Luso Corporation.  Still not satisfied, he struck out on his own 3 times with his biggest success coming as a founding partner of  Fematos International, an import-export business to Brazil and South America.  During this phase of his career he became the number one sales leader in all of North America for Head Corp.  He worked in New York City until the tragedy of 9/11 after which he closed down his business and retired to manage his rental properties until the time came for him and his spouse to leave their beloved New York City and live the remainder of their lives in the company of their surviving son in NC. He is survived by his son Hernan John Jimenez-Medina and family, his brother Omar Jimenez, sister Gloria Jimenez De Martinez, brother-in-law Alfonso Maya, and  beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday December 5, 2020 at St. Catherine's of Siena Catholic Church in Wake Forest.
