Maria Rosa Cassala Obituary

Maria Rosa (Papandrea) Cassala, 82, wife of Raffaele Cassala, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Born in Grotteria Provincia di Reggio Calabria, Italy on September 20, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Raffaele and Giuseppa Papandrea. She immigrated to the United States in 1966 before settling in Meriden. Maria worked as a seamstress prior to working for Napier and lastly, she worked at Corner House in Meriden. Mrs. Cassala was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Maria was well known for her generosity and was deeply devoted to Sant’Antonio di Padova. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Maria Volo and her husband, Anthony; one son, Antonio Cassala and his wife, Jaida; five grandchildren, Daniela Volo-Nunes, Marisa Volo, Jadalize Grimes, Bianca Grimes and Isa Mercedes Cassala; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Maria Fazzolari; a nephew, Salvatore Fazzolari; three nieces, Teresa Pagliaro, Josephine Brzozowski and Maria Driessen and many nieces and nephews in Italy. The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Campus for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m
