David R. Beers

David R. Beers, 82, of Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday December 1, 2020 in his residence.   Born May 3, 1938, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Herman L. and Mary Beers.  On November 10, 1990, he was united in marriage with Catherine E. (Gilbert) Hancock Beers, with whom he shared a union of 25 years prior to her passing on April 9, 2016.           David had been employed by Hempt Brothers, for 51 years, prior to his retirement.  An avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, he was always the happiest when he was surrounded by his family – especially his grandchildren.  David was a member of the former Derry Street United Methodist Church.       David is survived by his son, Dennis Beers and daughters, Loretta Soto, Karen Beers, Irene Beers and Sharon Soto; stepson, Larry Hancock and step daughters, Bonnie Beers, Rhoda Gutti and Christine Morris; brothers, Herman L. Beers, Jr., James Beers, Leroy Beers and Robert Beers and a sister, Gertrude Fillers.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren and 15 step great-great grandchildren.  In addition to his wife and parents, David was preceded in death by his brothers, George Beers and Lawrence Beers and sisters, Mary Orahood, Ruth Welder, Ida Minium and Elinor Osborne.       His Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday December 8, 2020 in the Neumyer Funeral Home, Inc., 1334 North Second Street, Harrisburg, with Pastor Mack Granderson, officiating.  Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.  Relatives and friends are invited to join the family during his viewing, from 11:00 A.M. to Noon, prior to the service.  In keeping with current health guidelines, attendees are encouraged to exercise proper precautions including the wearing of face coverings and appropriate social distancing.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions being made to the American Cancer Society.
