Mariam D. Bati Obituary

Mariam D. Bati, 90, a resident of Lawrence,MA passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital due to COVID. Mariam was born, raised and educated in Iskenderun, Turkey, the daughter of Dieb and Saydeh Zaitouni. She emigrated to Aleppo, Syria at age 12. She met the love of her life, Abdoh, while in Aleppo. They married and raise their family in Damascus Syria, before immigrating to Bradford, MA.

One of Mariam’s greatest loves was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was often heard singing to them in French, Turkish and Arabic. Her greatest pleasure was cooking delicious meals and goodies for everyone, entertaining, and making sure everyone felt welcomed and enjoyed the chocolates that she loved so much. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband Abdoh, her brother Jamil Zaitouni, her step-sister Olga Zaitouni. Mariam is survived by her son Michel and his wife Diane; her son Dr. Nabil and his wife Samia; her son Dr. Sami and his fiancee Caterina Ranieri; her daughter Laila Marawi; her daughter Lina and her husband Dr. Roger Siouffey. “Tayta” will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Amanda and Curtis Donahue, Marissa and Michael Carr, Daniel Bati, Joseph and Areej Marawi, Fadi Marawi, Meray and Shadi Ibrahim, Larah Siouffey, Tony Siouffey and “Tayta Mary” will be missed by her great grandchildren Joelle Marawi, Chantal Marawi, George Marawi, Julian Ibrahim, and Jude Ibrahim.

Mariam is also survived by her brother John Zaitouni, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Services and burial in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Melkite Church, Lawrence, MA. The  Dana Farber Cancer Center or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements are by the Dewhirst & Boles Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen.
