John William Parsley

John William “Bill” Parsley, 87, of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at his residence. He was retired after many years in maintenance with the former U.O. Colson Company and later worked for a number of years at C. I. Westcom of Casey, Illinois. He was born January 20, 1933, in Edgar County, Illinois, the son of the late Joyce V. and Jenna Ruth (Barr) Parsley. He married Jeanie Sims on October 28, 1966, in Grandview Township, Illinois, and she survives. Other survivors include a son, Jerry W. (Sheri) Parsley of Marshall, Illinois; two grandchildren, Kayla (Jeff) Parsley – Sanders and Patrick (Brittany) Parsley; two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Emmett Parsley; a nephew, Jim Parsley; and a niece, Joyce Anne Parsley. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Joyce and Anne Parsley. Mr. Parsley was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #211 and the Antique Power Club. In addition, he had served on the boards of directors of the Grandview Cemetery Association, the Grandview Township Board, and the Grandview Mutual Telephone Association. He enjoyed volunteering for the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department for many years and had served as Chief. Bill was a talented woodworker and also enjoyed vegetable gardening. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Grandview Cemetery Association. SERVICE INFORMATION Private graveside services were conducted Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Grandview Cemetery, with Pastor John Youngblood officiating. Military honors were accorded by American Legion Post #211 and burial followed. Casket bearers were Chad Cornwell, Shawn Graham, Kayla and Patrick Parsley, and Eric and Jim Tate. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris.
