Virginia Ruth Walden Obituary

Virginia “Jennie” Walden died December 2, 2020, after a tough bout with COVID-19. She was “Mom” to two, “Nana" to a few, and “sweet friend” to many. Jenny was born in Morrilton, Arkansas, and spent her youth in Northwest AR, graduating in 1963 from Yellville-Summit High, then moving to KC to live with her sister/accomplice, Louise. She met Jerry Walden soon after; they married in 1965 and settled in South KC to raise a family, sons Chris and Mike. Jennie gave of herself as a volunteer in her boys’ schools, the family church, and especially as a baseball mom, first to her own boys, then to charity events for her beloved Royals, for whom she was a long-time season ticket holder and avid fan until the end. After her boys were grown, she worked for American Century Investments for many years. After her divorce, she lived in Shawnee, KS, then in Kearney, MO, where she spent her last years with good friends and good times. Missing her like crazy is her eldest son, Chris Walden, and his spouse Leslie; grandsons Justin Dycus, Ryan Walden, Logan Walden, and Tyler Walden, and three great grandsons. Waiting on the other side to welcome Jenny are her parents and siblings, and her youngest son, Mike Walden. And hopefully, Elvis. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
