Billie Rae Cooze Obituary

On December 1, 2020, Billie Rae Cooze departed this life and went home to Heaven. She was born on Dayton Mountain on November 5, 1932 and moved to Red Bank as a teenager. She graduated from Red Bank High School and worked at the Chattanooga Health Department as a young woman. She became a stay at home mother for several years before returning to work at La Prissy Hen and Carriage Cleaners. Later in life, she became an antique dealer, following in the footsteps of her beloved mother. She had antique booths and loved going to auctions, “wheeling and dealing” and making many friends along the way. Billie was a vibrant, fun, feisty, and engaging Christian woman who loved people. She made quick friends out of strangers and was always planning her next adventure. She loved to entertain and spend time with family and countless friends. Billie and her husband recently left their home in the Mountain Creek Community and moved to the retirement community of Garden Plaza of Greenbriar Cove, in Collegedale, where she enjoyed as many activities as she could attend and making many new friends. Her greatest joy was her family who she loved deeply and was her happiest when around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Billie leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Bill, and her son, Whitley (Edna) Cooze of Ooltewah, TN, daughter, Beth (Will) Lee of Nashville, TN. Her grandchildren were the lights of her life, Alex (Corinne) Cooze and Megan (Trent) Hood of Ooltewah, TN, and Cooper and Patrick Lee of Nashville, TN and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 11 am at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace with funeral to follow at 1 pm in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park. In celebration of Billie’s love of wearing hats and vibrant and colorful clothing, the family would love for all attending to wear bright colors, especially red since that was her favorite color.
