John Ross “Jack” Schenk, a resident of West Bloomfield, died at his home on November 30, 2020 at the age of 88. Jack was born in Rochester, New York on March 13, 1932, the son of Julius Joseph Schenk and Irene Ross Schenk. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during which time he had the opportunity to assist in flying planes. He loved restoring antique wooden boats and cars, and in college enjoyed playing sports. He remained an enthusiastic lover of sports throughout his life. On November 12, 1965 he married Wyllis Talovich, and they made their home in the Detroit area where they were blessed with the births of three children, and where he owned and operated his own business for over forty years. Jack was a man of deep faith and was an inspiration to his family as he battled his health in recent years. He was a wonderful husband, dedicated father, and loyal friend to many and will be sorely missed. In addition to Wyllis “Willie”, his beloved wife of fifty-five years, he is survived by his children, Heidi McCarty (Richard), Joe Schenk (Toni), and Jennifer Hill (Tom); grandchildren, Daniel McCarty, Erin McCarty, Jack Hill, Abigail Hill, Frank Hill, Marcus Schenk, Bobby Schenk, and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Caryl Lambert and Jill Gorsuch. Services will be held privately with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Memorials may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
