Rita M. Hunte

Rita M. Hunte, 66, Cannon Ball, North Dakota, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at a Fargo Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Word of God Ministries, Fort Yates, North Dakota with Rev. Weyland American Horse and Rev. Marlon Hunte officiating. Burial will be in Word of God Ministries Church Cemetery, Fort Yates. Rita was born May 2, 1954 at Fort Yates, North Dakota, to Clyde Standing Bear Sr. and Elsie (Two Shields) Standing Bear. She was raised and educated in Fort Yates, graduated from Solen High School. She married Marlon Hunte on November 8, 1973. Over the years she worked as an administrative assistant for Sitting Bull College, BIA Office of Indian Education, and Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s, Chairman’s Office. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends but, especially loved to spend time with her (8) grandchildren. She spread the word of our lord for over 40 years across the United States and Canada. She is survived by her husband; four children, Derrik Hunte, Marlo (David) Hunte-Beaubrun, Isaiah Hunte, and Kelsey Hunte; eight grandchildren, Asonah Hunte, Carson Hunte, Zion Beaubrun, Laynie Hunte, Lennox Hunte, Lincoln Hunte, Lailah and special grandson, Weston Hunte; siblings, Phyllis Standing Bear, Patricia Elk and Bernadine Standing Bear; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends from Canada. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; Elsie (Two Shields) Standing Bear, Clyde Standing Bear Sr., and five brothers, Albert Two Shields, Earl, Sherman, Glen and Frankie Standing Bear.
