<p>LeRoy T. Whiteman, 91, of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Chester County Hospital surrounded by his family.</p> <p>He was the husband of Mary J. (March) Whiteman, they shared 62 years of marriage. He was predeceased by Brothers, Lester, George (Nook) and Sister Elizabeth (Betty) Whiteman DeHaven.</p> <p>Born February 25, 1929 in Lenape, PA on the Red Bridge farm where his father worked. &nbsp;He was the son of the late Edward Whiteman and the late Ella Johnson Whiteman.</p> <p>LeRoy graduated from West Chester High School, Class of 1946. The first High School swim team was organized in 1945/1946 which LeRoy was on and achieved his varsity letter.&nbsp; He also ran track and was on the Bowling Team.&nbsp; Yearbook tribute: &ldquo;Wherever you look for sports news, you will usually find Whiteman&rsquo;s name. He helped drive our swimming team to victory and put us on the map with his posters. LeRoy will be missed at the &ldquo;Y&rdquo; as he planned to enter the Marine Corps.&rdquo; Marine Corps. was full, he then he decided to enlist in the Army after completing some classes at West Chester University. &nbsp;&nbsp;LeRoy served in World War II performing PT training in Fort Benning in jump school. One of his proud moments was saluting Dwight Eisenhower returning from Europe after VE day.</p> <p>LeRoy worked as a Shipping and Mechanical Supervisor for National Foam, Inc./Chubb Fire Protection for 49 years and was proud to be a part of the manufacture of National Foam&rsquo;s initial Mobile Equipment unit: ME#1 (Fire Truck).</p> <p>He was an active member of the American Legion Post 134 and the Goshen Baptist Church. LeRoy was an avid Eagles and Phillies sports fan.&nbsp; Many hobbies included woodworking, creating beautiful birdhouses, Santa Clauses, refinishing furniture, and fishing.&nbsp; He also enjoyed mowing his lawn with his John Deer tractor and spending time with all his family.&nbsp; LeRoy was a huge Sinatra fan, enjoyed music and dancing.</p> <p>LeRoy had a zest for life.&nbsp; Anyone who knew him or met him for the first time was greeted with a hardy handshake, hug, and kiss.&nbsp; He always had a story to share or a joke to tell, and/or a song to sing; he was never at a loss for words! He will be greatly missed by all.</p> <p>He is survived by his 5 Children: Tom Whiteman (Tracy), Trudy DiLuigi (Steve), Joanne Sylvester (late Earl), Bruce Whiteman (Fiona) and Dave Whiteman.&nbsp; Six grandchildren, Scott, Damien, John, Jason, Ashley, Courtney; six great grandchildren; Brody, Ben, Brynlee, Canaan, Emily, and Harper. Sister-in-Law, Faye (Stauffer) Whiteman and many nieces and nephews whom he adored.</p> <p>Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Graveside Service on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 11:30 am at Green Mount Cemetery, 117 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19382&nbsp;</p> <p>Social distancing with masks required.</p> <p>Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 101&nbsp;E. LeRoy T. Whiteman, 91, of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Chester County Hospital surrounded by his family.
