Eleanor May Steele

Eleanor May Steele, lovingly known as “Meema”, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30th in Essex Jct., VT with family by her side. She was 90 years old. Eleanor was born on June 16th, 1930 in Weymouth, MA to Edward and Eugenie Walsh. In 1952, she married Russell “Beepa” Steele, her loyal partner in life for 62 years before his passing in 2013. They had six children whom they cherished, and her love of family was a central and driving force throughout her life. While she had many pets through her life, her beloved dog, Patches was special. In 1983, she moved to Florida, where she lived for 31 years before moving to Vermont in 2014. Besides spending time with her friends and family, Eleanor loved playing cards, reading novels and poetry, watching the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics, and spending summers with her extended family camping at Peter’s Pond Park on Cape Cod. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her generous and selfless nature, and her huge heart filled with love for the people in her life. She touched many lives with her kindness, her thoughtfulness, and her passion for life. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her six children (Russell Steele, Jr., Sandra Boetsma, Joyce Yamase, Elaine Maynes, Robert Steele, and Randall Steele), her 18 grandchildren, and her 10 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Mansfield Place, Bayada Hospice, and Dr. Karen Sokol for their compassionate care for their beloved Meema. Eleanor will be inurned next to her beloved Russ in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. The family invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com.
