Ralph J. Flaherty

BEVERLY - Ralph J. Flaherty age 93, husband of the late Gladys A. (McManus) Flaherty, died, Monday, November 30, 2020 at Country Center in Newburyport. He was the son of the late James Edward and Mary Ann (Smallcomb) Flaherty. Mr. Flaherty was a graduate of North Quincy High School and Boston University. An Honorable discharged Veteran, he served his country during WWII as a member of the United States Navy. He was a Petty Officer 2nd Class and served on the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge CV-45. He worked for many years at Rule Industries as a plant manager. Ralph enjoyed spending time boating in Gloucester on the family boat “Jotom” which they kept at the Cape Ann Marina for over 30 years. He enjoyed reading biographies about WWII and spending time with the many friends he met from Raymond Farms and St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. Surviving him is his son, Thomas Flaherty and his wife Denise of Merrimac, MA; daughter-in-law Maura Flaherty of Marblehead, MA; brother of Capt. Walter Flaherty USNR (Ret); four grandchildren, Nora and Jack Flaherty of Marblehead, and Justin and Jordyn of Merrimac, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Flaherty; a brother, James Flaherty; a sister, Marie Kiburs. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist, Beverly on Thursday at 11:00a.m. Visitation will be held prior in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, from 9:30 to 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Smile Train 633 Third Ave 9th Floor, NY,NY 10017.
