Ruth "Tootsie" Irene Haddad Obituary

Ruth Irene Haddad, also known to many as “Tootsie”, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 at her home in Willimantic on November 30, 2020. Ruth was the youngest of 6 children born to Charles and Emma (Kelley) Haddad in Willimantic. She was a lifelong resident of Willimantic, loved people, and devoted her whole life to food service, gracefully serving guests at the former Checker Grill, Lindy’s restaurant, the Faculty Alumni Center and Student Athletic Center at UConn and in her final years, at many events at Eastern Connecticut State University. She was often in demand to serve private parties for the University Presidents and at special occasions. Ruth was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Willimantic and often volunteered her waitressing skills at St. Joseph Living Center. One of her greatest joys was entertaining her extended family at her home, utilizing every decorative touch and utensil she possessed! She also had a huge place in her heart for her beloved UConn Huskies Boys Basketball Teams. She often said one of the greatest thrills of her life was when Jim and Pat Calhoun surprised her by attending her 90th birthday party. Ruth is survived by several nieces and nephews: Ronald Haddad, Richard Haddad, Judy Haddad, Joan Fitzpatrick, Alan Coriaty, Darlene Theriault and Robert Haddad and their families and many friends. She was predeceased by her siblings George, Edward, Rose and Nellie Haddad and Jennie Coriaty, and nephews Brian Coriaty and Edward Haddad. The family would like to express a special thank you to her longtime caretaker, Tina, who was by her side throughout the past few years. Ruth was blessed with the gifts of longevity and a strong faith in God and served as an example to all who knew her. Due to COVID regulations, Ruth’s graveside service will be private, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Covenant Soup Kitchen 220 Valley St. Willimantic, CT 06226. To sign an online guestbook visit www.potterfuneralhome.com
