Darlene Donna Elberg Obituary

Darlene Donna Elberg, 93, of Minot, ND, passed into the presence of Jesus on November 29, 2020 at Edgewood Vista in Minot.  Darlene was born June 13, 1927, the daughter of Luther and Rose (Fuchs) Hansen of Carpio, ND. Darlene attended school in Carpio and graduated from high school in 1945. She attended Minot Business College. She married Lowell Elberg on June 19, 1947. They made their home on the family farm north of Carpio, ND, where they raised their four children, Jerry Alan, Bruce Lowell, Bonnie Rae, and Julie Ann. The Elberg family attended Messiah Lutheran Church, Greene, ND.  Darlene did an outstanding job at all the duties that present themselves for a farm wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was famous for her homemade doughnuts, buns, and caramel rolls. She maintained a large vegetable garden and canned the produce. She was a great cook. She could drive the truck, auger the grain, and dash to the implement store for repair parts. They were a team. She was always there when we got off the school bus and to help with homework. She allowed us to play in the mud and shoot BB guns. She could bat a baseball clear across the big farm yard and run the bases. She loved her family well.  Darlene also enjoyed her bowling league team and was a member of the Callahan township homemaker’s club. She enjoyed the friendship of the other farm wives nearby and the Senior Citizen activities in Carpio, Berthold, and Minot.  In 1987 Lowell and Darlene moved to Minot, ND, and attended Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working at Sears for several years in the women’s apparel department. She found that she was very creative with colors and gifted in putting together clothes and accessories. Lowell died in 2004. She moved to Edgewood Vista in 2016.  Surviving family includes: children, Jerry Elberg, Bruce (Peggy) Elberg, Bonnie (Larry) Waswick, Julie Elberg; grandchildren, Ami (Scott) Yale, Andy (Jana) Elberg, Tim Waswick, Ben Waswick, Jonathan Waswick, Ashley Schell. Great Grandchildren: Carson and Sierra Yale, Delaney, Emma, Dru and Axel Elberg, and Addison Waswick. Sister: Geraldine (Jack) Elefritz. Several nieces and nephews.  Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Rose Hansen; husband: Lowell Elberg; sister, Lila (Amos) Hanson.  The family would like to thank those who lovingly cared for our mother at Edgewood Vista.  Celebrating the Life of Darlene: Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, A Private Family Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 4, 2020, at 10:30 am at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel in Minot.  The family strongly recommends those attending to wear masks and social distance.  Interment: at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
